The first online course that helps European researchers to fight scientific disinformation

The problem of online misinformation in the scientific community is taking on new dimensions connected to the Covid-19

The problem of online misinformation in the scientific community is taking on new dimensions connected to the Covid-19 pandemic and the developing debate about climate change. Many experts admit that it is becoming increasingly difficult for European scientists, especially those just starting their journey as researchers, to navigate the enormous flows of information on the Internet.

To help cope with this problem, a special MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) called “Communicating Trustworthy Information in the Digital World.” This course is a product of an EU Horizon 2020 project called TRESCA (Trustworthy, Reliable and Engaging Scientific Communication Approaches). The course is accessible on the Coursera platform and lasts approximately 6 hours.

The misinformation in the online environment affects not only the scientific community. Therefore, within the framework led by Erasmus projects, European partners from Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, and Spain are working hard to create a “disinformation widget” that could help citizens detect misleading content online.
