BUDGET CUT IN HORIZON EUROPE TO SUPPORT UKRAINE

A cut of €2,1 Billions in the budget of Horizon Europe had been decided by the European Council

A cut of €2,1 Billions of which €1,5 Billions to support defence research in the budget of Horizon Europe had been decided by the European Council (EU heads of States) at the beginning of the month. They reached an agreement on the revision of the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2021-2027, with a focus on stable financial support for Ukraine for the period 2024-2027. A Ukraine Facility will be established with overall resources not exceeding EUR 50 billion, comprising loans and non-repayable support, to aid Ukraine’s recovery, reconstruction, and modernization efforts. The Council emphasized the importance of Ukraine upholding democratic mechanisms and human rights as preconditions for support. Additionally, the document addresses migration challenges, strategic technologies, interest payments, new own resources, solidarity aid reserves, and measures to alleviate the impact on national budgets.
