On September 16, we offered you a barometer of upcoming calls for projects for some clusters of the Horizon Europe program. The trend was not necessarily positive for some destinations in several clusters.
This time, Science Business, in its article of November 24, 2022, gives us a clear vision of the 2023 budget of the Horizon Europe program.
After negotiations that seem to have been very intense and difficult, the essential is safe. But in detail, we will notice that Pillar 2 records budget cuts for most clusters (in total, it is almost 453 million euros less). This could explain the trends given a few weeks ago. However, special attention will be given to large-scale collaborative projects.
On the contrary, Pillar 1 of the program sees its budget increase by almost 75 million euros. Pillar 3 is more or less balanced except for “reforming and enhancing European R&I system”, which loses 40% of its budget.
Finally, we learn that the unused amounts in the calls 2021-2022 will not be reallocated to future years. This highlights the importance of making the most of the available envelopes! So, ladies and gentlemen who work for research and innovation: to your applications!
