What is EIC Pathfinder?

EIC Pathfinder funds early-stage, high-risk research (TRL 1-4) to lay the foundation for breakthrough technologies. It supports visionary research teams and consortia to push scientific boundaries and bring deep-tech innovations to life.

• Funding: Up to €3M (Pathfinder Open) or €4M (Pathfinder Challenges)
• Additional support: Funding for proof-of-concept testing
• Business Acceleration Services: Mentoring, networking, and global partnerships

Who Can Apply?

EIC Pathfinder is open to:

• Consortia (at least three independent legal entities)
  • One legal entity from an EU Member State
  • At least two other independent legal entities from different Member States or Associated Countries
• Single applicants & small consortia (two partners) (for Pathfinder Challenges only)

Key Proposal Requirements

Your project must meet the following criteria:

• Long-term vision for a groundbreaking technology with market-creating potential
• High-risk/high-gain research that lays the scientific foundation for innovation

EIC Pathfinder 2025: Two Funding Opportunities

• Pathfinder Open (€142M Budget): For any field of science or technology, without predefined priorities. If you have an ambitious, disruptive idea, Pathfinder Open is your chance to secure funding!

• Deadline: 21 May 2025

• Pathfinder Challenges (€120M Budget): For projects tackling specific predefined challenges, shaping Europe’s next technological revolutions.
  • Deadline: 29 October 2025
